DOPE Dialogue

When two people are able to talk without the vitriol of the Internet, they both realize that the other is just another human being trying to attain self-actualization.

This is a reprisal of a dialogue I had almost two years ago with this hawey from Eritrea about the intent and content behind a page I started on Facebook called United Apart.  Yoel entered the page ready for battle, he was convinced that I was an Ethiopian hell bent on recolonizing Eritrea.  For over two weeks, Yoel was unrelenting in his accusations; he called me a fascist pig and any Eritrean that dare said a kind word a traitor to Eritrea.  He claimed to be a force of education, but really he was a force for division and hatred.  But through countless dialogue and unending exchanges on Facebook and email, Yoel and I decided to finally have a dialogue live on BC Radio.

I shall not bore you with the details, you can listen to all the DOPE dialogue by clicking on the radio picture below.  What you will hear while hopefully you are sipping on some buna on this cold January day is a thawing of his convictions that only transpired through calm cajoling and reassuring words on my part.  This is the power of dialogue, when two people are able to talk without the vitriol of the Internet, when two people talk by listening to each other, they both realize that the other is just another human being trying to attain self-actualization and happiness.  So here is to dialogue, may we all take a minute to talk, and more importantly listen.  Enjoy the dialogue below.  Peace.
