Let’s say you and I are on one side of a jungle, and on the other side, there lies Atlantis, a city of gold, a city of eternal bliss. Let’s say we both want to get to Atlantis, but before us lies a jungle full of snakes, bushes, trees, thorns, and danger. We both are daunted by the path before us, but we both have the audacity to think that we can make it to the other side to Atlantis. So one of us decides to take the first step, to start walking into the jungle. Let’s say you take the first step, and you make it 25% of the way and started a path for me to walk towards Atlantis. I should be happy that you made it 25% of the way right? Because you just made my path a lot easier and safer at least for the first 25 miles towards the 100 mile path. So now, I can pick up where you “failed” and go another 25 miles, now I fail at the 50th mile right? But guess what, because we worked together–Hebret–now we just made the path a lot easier for the person that comes after us. Now he has a path of 50 miles where he can avoid the snakes, bushes, thorns, and danger.
So my question is, if I decide to take the first step, should you “hate” on me for trying? Should you not be my biggest “cheerleader” knowing that if I make it 25% of the way, it will make your journey that much easier? Should you not give me water, boots, food, and hope that I make it all the way to Atlantis? Because if I make it to Atlantis, guess what, I just blazed a trail for you to make it to Atlantis as well aydel?
So do you want to be *SELFISH* just because I have the audacity to take the first step. Should you be protective of your “turf” in front of the jungle or should you lend me all your expertise, your knowhow, your best wishes, your respect, and your help to help me make it to the other side?
The motto of the story? Don’t be selfish. Don’t fight over a cup of water when you have an ocean to drink from. The world is infinitely large, ideas are not the province of one man, you and I can take the same idea and if you succeed, it will make it that much easier for my idea to succeed. In other words, Hebret–working together–will make it easier for all of us to reach Atlantis.
